The 3 Best Color Palettes for a Man Cave

Men need a space where they can relax, and just be men. A space where they can be alone and unwind or a space to hang with their closest buddies. When you think of a man cave most think of dull colors like black and gray, but there are plenty of colors that you can throw into the mix, while still maintaining that feeling of masculinity.

I narrowed down three Color Palettes that I've found to be the most popular in my consultations. They are masculine, sleek, but also completely comfortable. Listen up Gentlemen!

The Sleek Color Palette

Alright guys, this has plenty of gray but also plenty of color making it just the right balance of masculine. This color palette is a mixture of Black, Blue Grey (Dark & Light) and Navy Blue. by Sherwin Williams nailed this color scheme!

Other Colors that work are:

Hale Navy, Coventry Gray, Gray Owl and Black by Benjamin Moore.

Mixing in gold or chrome into light fixtures, bar stools, and "man decor" is a great way to add in another accent color. Also, think brown leather sofas & chairs, paired with a simple or striped area rug.

When using a color palette like this one, remember to introduce plenty of white into the space as it may become too dark without it. Think of white ceilings and trim as well as splashes of white in rugs and wall art.

Also, be sure there is plenty of natural or artificial lighting in a darker color scheme like this one. These darker colors can easily swallow a room. Placement of these colors is key, and I added the picture above, as it is the perfect way to go about it!

The Classic Palette

The second color palette I have found popular is a mixture of green gray, and adding in a little bit of cream/white and green gray in an accent wall (brick, stone, or wallpaper. As seen below.)

Black furniture such as sofas, chairs, bar stools, or tables are accents you can't go wrong with. Add in plenty of books, guitars, and cool lighting. Also, think wood floors and striped rugs.

The colors in the pictures above are Rockport Gray by Benjamin Moore (A gray with a green undertone, which when color matched, is the EXACT color of concrete) and Black by Benjamin Moore.

These are classic and timeless colors, and have always turned out great with my clients.

The Lodge Color Palette

The third is actually inspired by one of my favorite TV shows, Last Man Standing. If you've ever watched, they are always in Ed's office, sipping scotch and discussing manly things by the fire in their leather chairs.

This color scheme is fairly simple, a lot of wood paneling and dark browns.

This is probably the most favored color scheme I use, as we live close to the mountains.

Dark and sage greens, blues, and reds are great to add in for a little bit of color.

Think stone, big patterned rugs, and some trophy bucks from a successful hunt.

If you watch this show at all, pay attention to how they incorporate colors. They do a phenomenal job on every set.
